Frostbitten is an engaging novel filled with wit and humor. The story is about a young black woman, Rene Willams, who ventures away from home for the first time. Rene grew up in a close-knit middle class family in Philadelphia, PA. She along with her sister and brother were raised with strong religious values. After graduation from college with a degree in Engineering, she lands a job in Detroit, MI.
The story takes off when Rene accompaneied by her parents and sister arrive in Detroit. Her parents stay for about a week to help her get settled into her new job and apartment. Shen they leave Rene has mixed feeling about being on her own. The first day on the job is an eye opener for her; White males dominate the working environment. Rene is unprepared for the racism and prejudices she encounters on thejob, but her spirt is uplifted by her faith in God. What unfolds in this story is her journey to maturity.
Ms. Davis story may be fictional but makes yiou think that these are people that you know. After reading this book you will know why it's called Frostbitten. I recommend this book to all parents.
